Career Exploration
The Everett School District
has renewed its licensure with the Washington Occupational and
Information System (WOIS). This is a fabulous online database that
provides numerous activities for career explora-tion, a comprehensive
database available to Washington students, and numerous links to
colleges, pro-grams of study, financial aid info, etc.
It is also the container for 8th graders to contribute to their middle
school portfolio which has gone elec-tronic this year. This WOIS based
portfolio is designed to roll up to the high school level where our
kids can continue to build on it. Heatherwood 8th graders went through
a few career exploration lessons on WOIS this fall and set up their new
electronic portfolios. The students were thrilled with this tool. All
8th grade students were given instructions about how to log in at home,
and they were highly encouraged to share the WOIS website with their
families. Parents will see the final results of this portfolio at
Student Led Conferences in the spring.
Parents and students can access WOIS at home by:
1) Going to the Heatherwood homepage
2) Clicking on Counselor tab
3) Clicking on 8th Grade Portfolio
4) Clicking on WOIS website and other links posted for log in
